Studio Kroner welcomes Cincinnati photographer Matt Zory to present his show, Bodies of Sand: Life and Solitude In Death Valley, as a part of the 2022 FotoFocus Biennial, a month-long celebration of photography and lens-based art that unites artists, curators, and educators from around the world.
This year’s Biennial, entitled World Record, considers photography’s extensive record of life on earth, humankind’s impact on the natural world, and the choices we now face as a global community.
Bodies of Sand: Life and Solitude In Death Valley: October 8-29, 2022
Opening Reception: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, October 8
Artist Talk: 1-2 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022
Closing Reception: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, October 29
Matt’s work explores the vastness and the mystery of Death Valley, where the sense of isolation and forms created by shifting sands have short visual lives, and asks the viewer to consider if they parallel our connection to this earth.
In addition to being a photographer, Matt performs as the rhythm section bassist for the Cincinnati Pops. He recently retired as the Assistant Principal Bass (Trish and Rick Bryan Chair) for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. His most recent book, Through the Lens: The Remaking of Cincinnati’s Music Hall, is a photographic essay that documents the recent historic renovation of Samuel Hannaford’s 19th-century building.
