Tom Owen: Juxtaposing Dimensions

Tom Owen graced our walls with his sublime two- and three-dimensional work in a show entitled, “JUXTAPOSING DIMENSIONS.” We were honored to introduce, for the first time, a new body of Tom’s work, three-dimensional abstractions, shaped paintings of sorts that reflect the incongruity of modern life.

An Introduction

Tom Owen's elegant abstractions are largely inspired by the lines and shapes of both urban and coastal landscapes, and may at times, reference both personal and political realities.

“Growing up gay in Middle America during the 1970s required compartmentalization, sublimation, restraint. These survival tactics are reflected in the subtle texture, layering, flat forms, and color found in this body of work. There was no “out loud and proud” in the small town where I lived. Being an out gay person today shapes my art, it does not completely define it. My art practice is influenced by minimalism and abstraction, particularly aspects related to nature, identity, and the subconscious.” —Tom Owen

We love Tom’s work and have been watching it evolve for the past several years. We’re excited to have him in the gallery for this month-long show.
